Insulation
Keeping the heat in. Around half of heat loss in a typical home is through the walls and loft making them the two biggest causes of heat loss in the home so it's definitely worth getting yours insulated.
The savings
Just insulating your cavity walls could save you around £120 a year on your fuel bills and 800 kg of CO2. If your external walls do not have cavities, solid wall insulation will save you around £370 a year and two tonnes of CO2.
Insulating your loft could save you around £150 a year on your fuel bills and nearly one tonne of CO2. And you should also consider draught proofing and tank and pipe insulation.
How the savings add up
The amount of heat wasted in homes annually through uninsulated lofts and cavity walls is enough to heat 1.9 million UK homes. If every house in the UK that could installed cavity wall insulation it would cut CO2 emissions by around 4.6 million tonnes, enough to fill the new Wembley Stadium 590 times, and save over £670 million a year.
