Pump firm plans on wind turbine

A pump company in the Forest of Dean has become the most recent to seek to reduce its carbon emissions and earn some funds by setting up a wind turbine.

SPP Pumps in Gloucestershire is bidding to build a 37-metre wind turbine at its manufacturing site to help the company achieve its green goals.

Spokesman Mark Gunter told This is Gloucestershire: "The turbine will be capable of producing up to 100 kilowatts of electricity, approximately 30 per cent of the site's base load of energy and over the design life of the turbine it will offset 1,290 tonnes of carbon dioxide."

He predicted that because the proposed location did not affect vegetation nor alter the shape of existing boundaries, it should receive approval unless noise impacts local residents.

If the turbine goes up, the company, which produces diesel and electrical pumps, will benefit from the Renewables Obligation, which pays producers of renewable energy and was recently extended by ten years to 2037.
